Getting started
How do I add my flatmates?
Make a flat in talo. Add flatmates by name. Share the invite link — they tap it, open app.talo.club in their browser, and they're in. No OTP loops.
Can I use talo solo?
Yes. Track your share of a flat even if your flatmates haven't joined. They can join later and inherit the history.
Does talo work offline?
Mostly. You can add expenses offline and they sync when you reconnect. UPI settle needs your phone online (UPI itself does).
Money & UPI
Does talo move my money?
No. talo never holds or moves your money. We open your default UPI app with the right amount and VPA — UPI does the rest.
Why does GPay open by default?
It's the most-installed UPI app in India. You can change your default to PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or your bank app in Settings → UPI.
Do I pay UPI transaction fees?
No. UPI between consumers is free in India. talo doesn't add anything on top.
What if my flatmate doesn't have UPI?
Rare in India, but talo lets you record cash settlements too. Mark a balance as 'cash settled' and we'll clear it without UPI.
Privacy
What data does talo see?
Only what you and your flat enter into the app. We don't read your bank statements, SMS, or call logs. UPI hands off to your bank — we never see it.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes — end-to-end between flatmates. Your flat is the only group that can decrypt your shared expenses. Even we can't read them.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell, share, or rent your data. We're funded by an optional future Plus tier, not by selling your attention.
Move-in & move-out
What happens when someone moves in mid-month?
Add their join date. talo prorates rent and shared bills from that day. Subscriptions can be set to start from their join date too.
What happens when someone moves out?
Mark them as moved out. talo computes the final balance, settles their share, handles the deposit return, and archives them gracefully — without losing history.
Can we move the whole flat to a new house?
Yes. Migrate a flat to a new address while preserving history. Old leases and HRA receipts stay accessible.
App stuff
How do I use talo right now?
talo is live as a web app at app.talo.club — open it in any modern browser on phone or laptop. Native iOS (16+) and Android (9+) apps are in development and will share the same login.
Is there a desktop app?
Not yet. app.talo.club is the desktop experience for now. A native macOS / Windows client is on the roadmap.
How do I export my flat's data?
Settings → Export. You get a clean PDF + a structured JSON file. Yours to keep, always.
